Meet the Maker
Welcome to Torres Handmade! I am a passionate designer and maker with a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Handbags have been the primary focus for many years, and my deep love for craftsmanship is rooted in my childhood. Growing up surrounded by creativity and talent, I was fortunate to be raised by an artist father, a seamstress mother, and a shoemaker grandfather, and a grandmother who was a quilter, all of whom exposed me to the beauty of handmade items and crafts from an early age.
With over a decade of experience (but not brave enough to sell to the masses), I am now creating each piece with a careful eye for detail, blending style and sustainability. All handmade creations are from my studio in New York City, and my designs reflect a timeless commitment to quality and artistry, while the use of eco-friendly materials showcases my dedication to making beautiful and affordable products. These products include wallets, pouches, wristlets, totes and purses.
My style is more minimalist but elegant. Materials such as waxed canvas, vegetable leather, cork fabric, vinyls, and cloth are sourced in the United States.

Leather Selection: The process begins by selecting high-quality vegetable-tanned leather. This type of leather is tanned using natural plant-based materials, giving it a unique and sustainable appeal. The leather is often chosen for its texture, durability, and ability to age beautifully.
Cutting the Leather: Once the leather is selected, it's carefully measured and cut into the required pieces for the wallet’s body and pockets. This includes the main piece for the wallet’s outer shell and smaller pieces for internal card slots and a cash pocket.
Edge Finishing: The edges of the cut leather are smoothed and rounded. This is typically done using a beveling tool, followed by hand-burnishing, to ensure the edges are clean and smooth. This step not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also improves the wallet’s durability by preventing the leather from fraying.
Stamping & Marking: Some makers choose to add personal details, such as initials or logos, to the wallet. This can be done through a stamping or embossing technique, often using heat or pressure to imprint the design on the leather.
Sewing the Pieces Together: The individual pieces of leather are then sewn together by hand. This is typically done using a saddle stitch technique, which involves threading a needle through each hole in the leather to create a strong, tight stitch. I take great care in selecting the best materials for durability and aesthetics, ensuring that your item is both beautiful and functional.
2. Custom Orders Custom orders are welcome! If you have a specific design or color in mind, please reach out to me. I will work with you to create a piece that meets your needs. Custom orders may take extra time to complete, and I will provide an estimated time frame upon confirmation of the design.
3. Order Processing Time Processing times vary based on the complexity of the product and the number of orders in the queue, but typically, orders are processed within 2-3 business days. I will notify you if there are any unexpected delays.
4. Care Instructions To ensure the longevity of your item, I recommend following these care guidelines:
Leather: Keep away from excessive moisture. Wipe clean with a soft cloth and use a leather conditioner occasionally to maintain its softness and shine.
Cork & Waxed Canvas: Clean with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking or scrubbing the material to preserve its integrity. Do not iron it.
Fabric: Spot clean or machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold water. Air dry to prevent shrinking.
5. Returns & Exchanges As all products are handmade and sometimes made to order, I do not accept returns or exchanges. However, I want you to be completely happy with your purchase. If you have any issues with your order, please reach out within 7 days of receiving it, and I will do my best to resolve any concerns. Please note that custom orders are non-returnable.

5. Shipping Delays & Lost Packages While we do our best to ensure timely delivery, we are not responsible for shipping delays caused by the carrier. Once the package is with the carrier, delivery times are beyond our control.
