Creating a groovy spiral pattern reverse tie-dye shirt is a colorful and exciting journey! First, gather your essentials: a dark-colored cotton shirt, either bleach or an out-white brightener (OWB) solution, rubber bands, squeeze bottles, gloves, and a plastic bin.
Start by laying your dark shirt flat and pinching the center of where you want your spiral to begin. Twist the fabric in a circular motion, letting the shirt spiral around itself. Keep twisting until the entire shirt is in a tight, spiral shape. Secure your spiral masterpiece with rubber bands, dividing it into sections like slices of a pie.
Next, set up your reverse dyeing station by placing your banded spiral shirt in a plastic bin to catch any drips. Mix your bleach or OWB solution (about one part bleach or OWB to two parts water) and pour it into a squeeze bottle. Put on your gloves to protect your hands, and carefully apply the solution to each section of the spiral. The bleach, or OWB, will lighten the fabric, creating that amazing spiral pattern.
Let the solution work its magic for about 10–15 minutes, but keep an eye on it to make sure you get just the right amount of lightening. Once the color change is perfect, rinse the shirt thoroughly with cold water to stop the process.
