About this Product
This pen honors the grit and spirit of American craftsmanship in more ways than one. The satin chrome hardware carries the perfect balance of strength and subtlety, crowned with a cast American flag integrated into the clip — a respectful tribute to those who serve and those who remember.
But the real story is in the barrel: stabilized spalted guava. This rare tropical hardwood, once marked by natural decay, is preserved in vivid detail through a stabilization process. The result is a deep golden hue veined with lightning-crack spalting that mimics desert stone or sunbaked canyon walls — each line a fingerprint of nature’s unpredictability.
The twist mechanism offers effortless, intuitive use — no clicking or bolts — just a simple, confident rotation that feels deliberate in hand.
This is a pen for someone who writes with purpose.

Meet the Maker
Hi, I’m Chad—the craftsman behind every piece at StoneWood Designs.
I’ve been a woodworker for as long as I can remember. Whether building something practical or designing something purely for beauty, I’ve always found joy in shaping raw materials into lasting, meaningful objects. In recent years, that passion led me to the lathe—where form, texture, and purpose come together in a way that’s both meditative and endlessly creative.
From pens and bowls to holiday décor, kitchen tools, and desk accessories, everything I make starts with one thing: exceptional material. Living in Las Vegas means I have to work hard to source great wood—but I see that as a feature, not a bug. I spend hours tracking down the right pieces, often working with other small makers across the country to find sustainable, unique woods and hybrid materials. I pride myself on pairing each one perfectly with its hardware, so the design feels complete—intentional from start to finish.
If I had to sum up what I hope you feel when you see or hold one of my pieces? Evocative. Whether it’s a pen that reminds you of the ocean or a bowl that feels rooted in tradition, I want it to spark something. A memory. A mood. A sense of connection.
Supporting handmade work keeps these skills alive—and keeps small makers thriving. I’m proud to be part of that, and I’m grateful you’re here.

How it’s Made
The wood for this pen began as a raw, irregular piece of spalted guava — a wood that's tricky to turn and even harder to stabilize. It was vacuum-infused with resin to preserve its cracked figuring, then cut and shaped on a lathe with micro-level precision. After shaping, it was sanded through a full grit progression and polished to a glass-like finish that still lets the organic depth of the wood shine through.
The finished body was paired with satin chrome hardware and aligned precisely to ensure smooth twist action. Finally, the American flag top with clip was hand-seated to sit flush and square — no gaps, no wiggle, just craftsmanship that holds up.
