I love taking what may seem like ordinary stone and transforming it into something extraordinary.

I was born and raised in the beautiful state of Colorado and have always enjoyed the outdoors, but particularly life in the mountains. From skiing and camping to hiking and trout fishing, my favorite activities and memories growing up were in those glorious Rocky Mountains! After graduating from the Physician Assistant program at the University of Colorado in 2001, I began my medical career in Emergency Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma...noticeably far from any mountains! In 2006, I undertook a home landscaping project that included building a large, hand-chiseled stacked stone planter box at the end of our deck. I incorporated a beautiful water feature in the center utilizing smooth river rock from my beloved Colorful Colorado. Upon completion of my project, I was a bit sad because I had so much fun working with natural stone. Over the years, I have enjoyed landscape photography and decided to arrange some leftover river rock around the perimeter of a framed mountain photograph. Upon its completion, I felt God posed a simple question, “What else could you do with these stones?” With that simple question in mind, Stone Creek Décor was born. My original artistic creations incorporated mainly river rock, but in 2009 I started hand chiseling, cutting and artistically arranging natural stone slab into the shape of rugged mountains scenes I term "mountainscapes." I soon discovered that back-lighting stone created an incredible effect and my artwork could be enjoyed at night too! You’ll find some combination of granite, marble, slate, labradorite, quartzite, travertine or onyx in most of my mountain creations. These incredible stones are imported from quarries all over the world (including India, Italy, Brazil, Norway, Finland, Madagascar, China, Turkey, Ukraine, Mexico, Spain, Australia, Africa and Israel). I do not paint or stain the stone, but rather beautiful colors and textures are the unique result of varying processes of geological formation including heat, pressure and time. I painstakingly hand chisel and hand cut every stone in an attempt to capture the most natural and pleasing look. The multistep, labor-intensive process of creating my unique mountainscapes takes several days. It’s slow, tedious and really messy (just ask my wife) but I love every minute of it! Often times, I am able to salvage and repurpose beautiful and valuable stone that would otherwise end up in a landfill. By combining stone of different size, shape, color and texture into a finished one-of-a-kind piece of artwork, my hope is that you are left with feelings of peace and relaxation as you enjoy them both day or night! Most importantly, I hope you are reminded of all your mountain adventures and those you shared those adventures and memories with.
