Swamp Rose Mallow / Swamp Hibiscus seeds:
The Swamp Rose Mallow is unique in that is a variety of hibiscus that can actually grow in colder regions, no tropical climate required! This variety produces one of the biggest blooms of the mallow family with each flower reaching an astonishing 10"-12" in diameter, almost the size of a small dinner plate! Although these typically grow in wet areas, they will thrive in a garden that is well watered.
An online search can present some potential medicinal benefits, but these are best used as centerpieces or fresh cut flower arrangements. . Fill a glass bowl or equivalent with water and float one of these in the center. These could be used at weddings, Easter dinners, Quinceaneras, etc.
The large fragrant blooms boast 5 dainty rounded white petals, accented with light shades of pink and fuchsia. The inner portion of the bloom is a light burgundy color with a protruding yellow stamen. These large blooms are also easy targets to attract a numerous array of beneficial insects and pollinators.
You can direct sow these in the ground during the fall so they go through the necessary over-winter cycle. If you choose to sow in the Spring or start indoors prior to spring, you will need to stratify these 60 days prior to planting. These easy steps will be provided in the instructions.
Maturity days:
1-2 seasons
In the first season, you will grow mainly foliage with some blooms
The second season will yield many more blooms and the plants will mature to their full height of 60".
