About this Product

Ahoy Mateys! Welcome to PirateCove! Provide your little pirates with hours of imaginative play...this simply adorable felt toy pattern will make a 7 piece set has everything an aspiring young swashbuckler would need: A treasure chest with a lock that really opens, a pirate sword, a treasure map, a compass, a jewel and a handful of doubloons! Everything except the sword fits inside the chest for tidy storage. The unique but simple construction of the sword makes it very sturdy--it can bend but will bounce right back and won't droop! With this pattern you can make: *Treasure chest with lock (approximately 9" X 7" X 5") *Pirate sword (approximately 16.5" long) *Treasure map (approximately 11" X 8") *Compass (approximately 2.5" X 2.5") *Jewel (approximately 3" long) *Gold doubloons (approximately 1" diameter) You will receive a PDF pattern only, NOT the finished items. The extensive 38 page booklet includes full-scale pattern templates--NO ENLARGING NECESSARY, cutting layouts, easy to follow step-by-step instructions with many full color photos and diagrams and a complete materials list so that if you'd like, you can make the set exactly as shown. Variations are also fun...you can try different colors--make a set for a girl pirate too! No matter how you choose to make it, this pirate play set will be a huge hit with the little people in your life because all Treehouse Patterns designs are extensively tested by the people who matter most...kids! This pattern requires approximately 5/8 yard (19" X 36") or 4-12 X 18 sheets of felt for the treasure chest and one 12" X 18" sheet of felt for the sword. The rest can be made using 9" X 12" felt sheets and small remnants. 2/3 yard of Peltex Ultra Firm Sew-In stabilizer is also required but stiffened felt available at fabric and craft stores is a great substitute. This Original Treehouse Patterns Design is copyright protected and may not be shared, copied, redistributed or resold. I encourage you to use this pattern to create items for sale but please credit me as the designer; "A Treehouse Patterns Original" is sufficient. Items may not be mass produced. This item requires a PDF viewer and prints best on 8 1/2 X 11 letter paper but every effort has been made to assure it prints equally well on A4 paper. Please contact me with any questions or concerns--I'm here to help you succeed!

Meet the Maker

My felt food obsession happened "by accident" when my granddaughters were quite young. My youngest daughter emailed me a picture of the play kitchen her girls were getting for Christmas. The picture showed kids playing with some sort of "fake" food--I got to browsing and ran across all sorts of tutorials for DIY felt food. I made a few pieces from the tutorials and patterns others had designed but never being content with anything "ready made"--patterns or anything else I could possibly make myself, I started designing my own felt food. It proved to be addicting and I showed my creations to anyone who would stand still long enough to look. One day my brother saw what I had made and asked where I was selling them. "Selling them...? I'm not selling them..." He replied, "Well, you should". So I poked around, found a venue and the TreehouseToyShop was born. I started getting a lot of requests for patterns for my felt food and it seemed logical to open a dedicated pattern shop and now here we are...TreehousePatterns! Look around, ask questions, leave suggestions and comments and maybe pick up a pattern or two. I hope you'll be a regular here! :-D Plans are in the works to reopen the TreehouseToyShop, with finished, ready-to-ship felt food! Occasionally I do custom orders for the finished items now, so if you're looking for that service, or for felt food I don't currently offer, let me know...we may be able to work something out!

How it’s Made

Each Treehouse Patterns design is first sketched out by hand and then digitized to produce clear, professional looking templates. They're then tested in acrylic felt to ensure all the components fit together as intended. Adjustments are made to the pattern as needed and then tested in acrylic felt once again. Once I'm happy with the final result, a complete prototype is made to be absolutely sure the entire pattern works together and that I haven't missed anything. Then I proceed to making the final version out of the intended materials--wool blend felt. My work doesn't end there. The step-by-step photos must be edited for clarity, the "Beauty Shot" for the cover must be taken and the instructions written up and proofread. Only when I'm convinced that my creation is as perfect as I can possibly make it, do I publish it. A lot of time and effort goes into each step along the way, to make sure the final product is an easy to understand, easy to make pattern. Sometimes the acrylic prototypes are sold at a discount, either here in my pattern shop or in my toy shop. The final set, used in the beauty shot, is also sold in one of my shops, at full price. If you're interested in finished items, watch for the prototype to go on sale shortly after the pattern is released. Or, if you prefer, you can contact me for a finished item price and I can set up a special listing for you. Finished items can take 3-6 weeks to make, depending on my current workload.
