Pearls are one of the most beloved gems, used for millennia in jewelry and decoration, and are the only gems grown inside a living organism. The first recorded mention of pearls is 7,500 years old. They are one of a few organic gemstones, including ivory, amber, and coral. The American pearls I use are wild, natural river pearls from the mollusks in the rivers of Tennessee. They are very rare and come in a variety of shapes and sizes: wing-shaped, rosebud, triangles, coin, keshi, snail, free-form, and more. Each pearl is a one-of-a-kind. If you're interested in other wild river pearls for any type of jewelry piece, contact me to see what's available. Kasumi pearls are freshwater pearls cultivated in Lake Kasumi-ga-Ura in Japan, which roughly translates to "the body of water beyond the mist". They are known for their oil-slick luster along with the natural and vibrant colors in shades of white, pink, peach, cream, orange, gold, bronze, green, and purple. The mollusks that produced these pearls are now an extinct species and the pearls are no longer being produced, though there are now hybrids producing similar pearls, available in my shop. Pearls are one of the birthstones of June, along with color-changing alexandrite, and moonstone. It is also the 3rd and 30th wedding anniversary gem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl
