About this Product

Patience and me do not get along, unless I am cutting on my scroll saw. No lasers or automated work on any of my stuff. Just good old hand crafted stuff that is for you to buy, which will then fund more wood and unbroken blades. I am not a major profit shop ...I just but I profit in making smiles! (good cornball, huh?)

This deer was a beast! About half-way thru, I was like "what the heck am I doing"...Lots of holes to drill for each open area. Lots of small cuts..and my wife asking - "what is that?"

Ended up nice and only made one!! It could be yours!

Meet the Maker

I was known as the Scrollin' Dude for awhile. Then my wife stepped in and said - "NO MORE DUDES - you are 67 and a DUD". OK, so I agreed to change my shop name. I did not tell her that my TW200 motorcycle still has a TDUDE on the license plate....

All that aside, I make many things out of wood, by hand, and some of my work ends up like a strange creation , so we decided that the new name/brand would be ReddWood Creations. Think, me be Redd, its my Wood, and some of the stuff is a "real" creation!

So this is my attempt to create an online place to share my work with you. Remember, no 2 pieces are ever the same.

I also do custom scroll saw work....from pictures turned into puzzles to xmas gifts - like a family name attached to the word Christmas..in an oval shape...Did 20 of those last year for a family....

Drop me a note on your idea and we will talk.

How it’s Made

The process to make this one was is very, very time consuming.

My pieces may look corny or simple compared to some art, but it is a complex process - especially with this unique pattern for the deer. Here is a sample of the steps to scroll saw wood art:

  1. I cut the square of wood for the pattern of the piece I am doing..

  2. I then cover the wood with painters tape.

  3. Next we spray the back of the pattern with 3m glue and attach the pattern to the wood. We let that dry.

  4. Then I drill a small hole inside all the open spaces you see on the final piece. Then we head for the saw.

  5. On the saw we have to align the piece over the blade and push the blade up through one of the tiny 1/64 in diameter holes. The we lay the piece on the Scroll Saw table and attach the other end of the blade to the upper arm of the saw. Then we cut and cut and cut. Repeat this step many times.

  6. While cutting I wear ISO headphones and start up my audio book and start cutting.

  7. Then cut out a base , attach it to the piece, and apply the finish to the whole thing.

  8. Then take to to quality control (my wife) and say a silent prayer that the piece passes her inspection.

PS. I listen to about 250 audio books a year.
