About this Product

All fiber used in my weaving is sourced from local non-profit charity stores that benefit several area foundations. I am picky about the fabric, making sure it is cotton, and is structurally sound. I hand cut and sort the fabric into color families and weave on a 1940's era rug loom I call Big Betty.
Handwoven rugs are a little different from big box store throw rugs. They are plenty sturdy but hot wash water and the dryer will quickly turn them into wrinkled messes. Follow the care instructions below and all will be well. These rugs have been washed after weaving and treated with a fabric protector.

Everyday Care
Shady Grove rugs are finished by being hand washed and then treated for stain resistance. Reapply a stain protector such as Scotch Guard or Aqua Armor as needed, and wipe up spills immediately with a dry cloth.
It is normal to have loose threads from the reclaimed fabric peek out from the weave. These can be trimmed if desired. Do not pull loose threads.

Removing Dust and Dirt
Hang rug over a railing or clothesline and hit with a carpet beater or broom. Remove light dust and dirt with a vacuum.
Do not shake rugs with enough force to snap out dust as this puts stress on the weave structure and will age a rug prematurely.

Washing and Drying
Wash in cold water only to avoid excess shrinkage.
Squeeze out excess water by rolling in a large towel and then lay out flat to dry.

Slipping
Rugs may cause a slipping hazard when placed on hard surface floors. Use a rug pad to reduce slipping hazards.
