The Sewing Project is a grant funded, year long project with the goal of bringing affordable sewing lessons to the community.

Kim will be teaching 2 Intro to Sewing classes, 1 project based class, and 1 embroidery class per month, in 2 different locations, every class is $5 only.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

Each class costs only $5! Payable to instructor at time of event. Cash or Venmo.

Intro to Sewing for Kids: Kids ages 8-16. Skills you will learn: how to thread your machine, how to wind a bobbin, backtacking, corners, curves, proper tension, and proper needle selection. With these basic skills, you will be well on your way to sewing up a frenzy! All materials provided for this class. We will be sewing a very simple sachet in this class.

Intro to Sewing for Adults: Adults ages 16+. Skills you will learn: how to thread your machine, how to wind a bobbin, backtacking, corners, curves, proper tension, and proper needle selection. With these basic skills, you will be well on your way to sewing up a frenzy! All materials provided for this class. We will be sewing a very simple sachet in this class.

Sew a Tote Bag: All ages. We will be learning how to sew a lined canvas tote bag. Learn how to attach handles to your tote, how to make a gusset (aka, this tote bag with have depth) , and how to place and attach a lining to a bag. All materials provided. SKILL LEVEL: Beginners/Intermediate (you must have previous sewing knowledge, and be able to navigate and use a home sewing machine without much help)

Stuffed Pumpkin: All ages. We will learn 2 different methods for sewing stuffed pumpkins, and attaching stems and decor with hot glue. All materials provided. SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate (you must have previous sewing knowledge, and be able to navigate and use a home sewing machine without much help)

Open Sew: All ages. This class is designed to be open to any project you are currently working on and need help with, with an emphasis on Halloween Costume help! Bring in your project, if you are stuck on a step, concept, idea, or how to sew something pertaining to your costumer or project, bring it all with you, grab a space and start sewing with friends! SKILL LEVEL: Beginner/Intermediate (you must have previous sewing knowledge, and be able to navigate and use a home sewing machine without much help)

Meet the Maker

Kim Mowers is primarily a machine sewist, and has been stitching, designing and sewing professionally for 18+ years. She began her career designing and sewing handbags and laptop bags under the business name ZAUM, and has since branched out into multiple other creative sister lines. KIMBERLY ROSE is one sister line, in which Kim designs, sews, and sells salvaged leather and eco friendly goods. TINY SNUGGLES is her line of pet slings and pouches.

Kim is also Co-Founder of The Burncoat Center for Arts and Wellness (BCAW) and you can find her there in her studio most days. Kim teaches sewing lessons @ BCAW, and sells some of her handmade goods in store as well.
