About this Product

This instant digital download pattern contains easy-to-follow instructions to crochet the Spiro Beanie and Slouchy hat for men and women.

Spiro uses three kinds of stitch variations to create a lush texture of “chained” bands. This classic unisex beanie or slouchy can also show an uber-feminine side with its optional, dramatic frilled flower.

The pattern offers four sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large with head circumferences of 21, 22, 23, 24 in./53, 56, 58, 61 cm.

YARN:
The Spiro Beanie and Slouchy use worsted weight (#4 Medium) yarn with a recommended crochet gauge of 14 sc = 4 in./10 cm. Spiro looks especially great in a color-changing yarn. For best results, use a yarn with body for the beanie. (Any worsted yarn works well for the slouchy.) This stitch pattern is very stretchy, and some yarns may not hold the beanie shape. The sample beanie, pictured here in rust tweed, is crocheted in a sturdy wool yarn that creates a head-hugging hat.

WHAT YOU GET:
A 5-page PDF pattern that also provides links to my website -- www.hatsbyelvee.com -- for technique tutorials and stitch definitions for new crocheters. The written instructions use American crochet terms.

Meet the Maker

The Chunky Guy Beanie, pictured here, is my best-selling pattern, with hundreds sold to makers from around the world.  The pattern exemplifies what I love most about crochet and knitting: An easy pattern can produce a classic look as well as an enjoyable crafting experience.

Almost all of my patterns use simple, basic stitches.  I occasionally venture into intermediate territory -- but only if the end result is worth the extra effort.

One of my favorite activities is to round up a few balls of yarn and experiment with stitches and shapes and color combinations.  It's an adventure to find out what kind of hat the yarn wants to be.  A sassy, lacy Juliet cap for summer?  A rugged, ribbed topper for frigid days?  A snazzy fedora that evokes vintage glamor?

I really enjoy doing my small part in bringing warmth and beauty into the world, one hat at a time.  My wish is that you enjoy making/wearing/gifting hats from my patterns as much as I enjoyed creating them!

Happy crocheting/knitting!
