Hi, I’m Paula Bowers! I’ve been creating pottery for over 12 years, drawing inspiration from the rich history of South Carolina ceramics, the natural beauty of our family farm, and the music that moves me.

How it’s Made
This Avett Brothers-inspired mug begins as a hand-rolled slab of clay, shaped into a classic tall mug form. The surface is textured with hand-stamped musical notes to create movement and rhythm all the way around. The guitar is sculpted separately, then carefully applied, with each string, fret, and word — “say love” and “Seth” — carved by hand to honor the lyrical heart of Seth Avett’s music.
Once dry, the mug is bisque fired in the kiln. It’s then hand-painted with layers of glaze: warm browns and oranges for the guitar, soft blush on the cheek, and washes of blue and plum on the rim for a dreamy, musical finish. A final high-fire glaze firing locks in the details and makes this mug microwave and dishwasher safe — built for everyday use and Avett-loving hearts.
