Meet the Maker
Hello. I was a special education teacher for thirty-four years! I am now retired and am spending much of my free time sewing.
My mom did a lot of sewing when I was a child. She made most of our clothes until we were old enough to protest. We did not appreciate having unique, homemade clothing at that age.
I took an interest in learning to sew at a young age so my mom started teaching me. I sewed off and on throughout my life when I had extra time. Now that I have more time to sew I am honing my skills and learning new skills by reading books and watching videos. I enjoy the creative process.
How it’s Made
I knew I had to create a quilt using this lovely floral, turquoise and green fabric as soon as I saw it. I don't use a pattern when quilting. I simply cut the fabric and then decide how I will put the pieces together. The first layer is put together using these cut pieces. Then this part is sewn together with the batting and the backing. Finally, the binding is sewn on to bring it all together. It takes many hours to make a quilt; even one this small.
