About this Product

This unique jewelry box is made of premium grade Sapele (from West Africa). The lid inlay is a highly figured Karalian Birch veneer  from the area around Finland. The design provides for maximum use of the space for jewelry storage. At the top is an open, full width lift-out tray. Great for chains, necklaces, or any other jewelry that doesn't fit in neat little "cubbies". Below the tray is a full width storage area with a removable divider grid. (You can be as organized or free form as you wish!)  The hinges used are the highest quality and American made. They are solid milled brass and have built in stops to hold the lid open without additional hardware or chains. The interior lining is a faux suede upholstery fabric which is elegant in look and feel, while at the same time very durable. Finally, the entire piece is finished with multiple coats of satin lacquer, giving it a smooth, silky feel, and yet requires only a dusting to keep it looking great. Approximate overall external dimensions are 12 1/2" wide x 9" front to back, and 4 1/2" high.

Meet the Maker

I have been fascinated by wood for many years. The range of color, texture and pattern found in woods from around the world provides an almost unlimited creative pallet. Add to this wood’s malleability, and it becomes an ideal medium for creating objects with both beauty and functionality.

Most of my early working with wood was as a do-it-yourselfer, making furniture, cabinets or whatever else we needed around the house.  However, since 1999 I have concentrated on designing and building wooden boxes. A box is the ideal vehicle for combining functionality with the elegance and beauty of wood.

My work has been featured in Woodcraft Magazine as well as Sterling Publishing’s 14 Wooden Boxes You Can Make. In 2016 I was featured on INSP TV’s HANDCRAFTED AMERICA.

Posted in my shop and on my business cards is a quote from the late Louis Nizer that I find inspiring:

A man who works with his hands is a laborer;

A man who works with his hands and his mind is a craftsman;

But a man who works with his hands, his mind and his heart, is an artist”.
