About this Product

*** Coins and Sharpie shown are not included ***

The UnMinted Tracing Jigs are designed to make preparing your coin cuttings an easier start.

The jig includes:

- 3D Printed Tracing Jig for US Pennies

- Instruction Sheet

IMPORTANT: The jigs help you mark your cuts for using your jewelers saw. A quality jewelers saw and quality saw blades are recommended, as cheap blades will tend to wander while cutting.

The coin spheres take time and practice to make, especially with smaller coins, but are a great effect once your get the hang of it! Place the coin into the straight edge side pocket of the 3D printed jig to draw a quick center line (optional, but they are there if you want the alignment), then move the coin over to the main pocket to align and trace the shapes onto your coins.

Please Note: For the Coin Sphere Puzzles, you'll need 3 coins, and each will have different cut-outs. I've designed these to work best with an Ultra Fine-Point Sharpie® held vertically when marking your cuttings - each of the slots are widened by ½ the diameter of the Sharpie®, so once marked, the goal is to cut as close to that outer edge of your markings as possible.

Once cut, I use a mix of files / strips of sandpaper to clean up the edges and adjust as needed. For a snug fit when the coins are assembled, the width of the resulting slots should be close to the thickness of the coin you're working with.

Ultra Fine-Point Sharpie® Recommended.

Meet the Maker

Handcrafted coin rings & pendants began as a hobby and quickly became an obsession. From the punches and dies, to annealing and forging, to polishing and antiquing – the process drew me in.

There were a lot of things I like making that custom tools and jigs could help with, so I started designing and making jigs, and then decided to make them available to other makers.

Coins inherently have their own story – their own history. For generations, they’ve been carried, collected, passed down, exchanged and traveled.

Turning coins into jewelry allows us to become part of that story – they travel with us. Whether keepsakes, anniversaries, birthdays, or surprises, the story continues.

Early forms of currency were bits and shapes of silver, they were â€œUnMinted“ coins. Over the years, they became individualized to people and groups who developed and standardized them.

I like to think that, in a way, we’re going back to the roots.

How it’s Made

I designed these to make coin cutting more consistent - I modeled them in Blender, then I 3d print them on my Bambu Lab A1 Mini 3d printers.
