Meet the Maker
Hi! My name is Jessica. I am the owner/designer/maker/shipper/accountant/social media "guru"/photographer of The Mystic Victorian. I hope I can help adorn and empower you today!
I used to dabble in jewelry-making when I was doing that 9-5 life that always seemed to be at minimum 7a-10p. I started a different version of my shop about 10 years ago. I couldn't think of a great name and I was torn on what to make. I always got told "That's too fancy" or "Why don't you go in this direction" and I felt a little confused. I seemed to always let people lead me to what was popular or what they liked and it never felt like it was from me. About a year ago, I rebranded to The Mystic Victorian and I told myself, I'm going to make what I've always wanted to make! Whenever I've put on jewelry, it's never crossed my mind if it was "too fancy." If it matched crossed my mind, of course, and if it made me feel good. A great necklace has always made me feel empowered to be the me I want to be. So now, I feel fantastic about my new name, the style and look of the pieces I put out, and the overall feeling of doing things on my own terms!
My handmade jewelry and baubles that I sell, stem from my favorite things and my favorite styles. I LOVE old things! I am an old soul indeed. I would say I was born in the wrong time, but I'm a pretty big feminist so I don't think I would've made it in an older time! I love scrollwork on anything, old houses, furniture, old books (and new!), flashy jewelry from kings and queens of the past, big dresses, pocketwatches...I could go on and on. But I also love quiet things, like the rain, the beach, and a nice library visit. I get inspired by nature a lot. A good sunset goes a long way! All of this tends to somehow come together in what I make.
I am married and a mom of two little boys and a doggie. I used to work retail for about 15 years, give or take. I've done restaurant jobs, cashiering jobs, and managerial jobs. My favorite and longest job I had was as a frame shop manager in a craft store. We had so many cool art pieces, and very weird, come in to be framed, and it was one of the biggest joys to make something out of the box where I could be creative with the design and emphasize the beautiful colors or importance of the piece before me. I have that same joy when I can bring an idea to life and make it work the way I wanted it to. Even a strung beaded necklace is given so much more thought than just stringing a pre-set combination of beads onto a different thread. I always create my own combinations and match colors to emphasize each other and exude as much beauty as I can bring out. That is what makes the wearer feel fantastic, is when you can feel that when you put it on. There's power in not being afraid to wear what you love!

How it’s Made
This pendant started out with a small piece of wire. I curved it and added a loop on each end. I had to go through different sizes of rondelles to see what fit around the horseshoe, but I knew I wanted a Christmas color, so I settled on this size of beautiful bright red beads. I wrapped some 26 gauge wire around the horseshoe wire, then threaded on my beads and attached it to the other side of the horseshoe. I then went back towards the first end of the horseshoe and wrapped the beads onto the 20 gauge wire to keep them in place. I went back down to the second end to make a pretty criss-cross pattern between the red beads. Then, to keep the daintiness of the pendant relevant, I used a thin chain to attach it to and added a lobster clasp.

Processing Time
Processing time is the time it takes to receive the order, pack it, and get it to the post office. Almost all of my items are completely made at the time of posting, and that processing time is 1-2 business days. This also helps with orders placed on the weekend where I have to dodge them being closed on Sunday. I live in a small town and the post office is the closest shipping option to me, so costs and shipping times correlate to what they offer.
The few custom listings I have will take a couple days or longer to make, depending on the item. Please see individual listings for those processing times, and again, know that the processing time listed is for how long I need to make it and get it to the shipping carrier. If we do a full custom order with consultation, it will have an agreed-upon timeline before processing begins.
Return Policy
As a general rule of thumb, I do not accept returns and offer refunds. I am not responsible for reckless shopping urges like drunk shopping, or you buying an item, being asked three times if you’re sure you want to buy it, and then decide you don’t want it. What I am responsible for is my pride and joy that I create and send out to the world. I stand behind what I make 100% and I test out my own jewelry techniques before I list anything.
I know what wear and tear looks like, and I know what intentional damage looks like, and I know when a component gives way. That being said, if you have an issue with anything that is purchased from me, please contact me! I would love to make it right! I don’t make certain components like jump rings and some clasps and head pins, and while I do test their durability or moveability, I can only guarantee what I can see in that moment and what I’ve tested. If one of those components break I will be happy to replace it, or if you have some other problem we can discuss it and come up with a solution, even if it ends up being a return. If you intentionally bought it, then I assume you want it, and I will do all I need to do to make sure you are happy with your purchase!
