Meet the Maker

Hi, my name is Hannah!

I have a life-long love of all things books and journaling. I was gifted my first diary when I was eight, which set me on a path of writing and journaling for over thirty years. I also have a great love of vintage and upcycled fabric and the art of bookbinding always intrigued me and I became a self-taught bookbinder several years ago. Making handcrafted journals combines my love of journaling, vintage fabric and bookbinding in one neat package. :)

I am also a certified aromatherapist and soapmaker. My aromatherapy roll on oils are meant to enhance your wellness routine and evoke a sense of peace and relaxation throughout your day. They are easily tucked in a purse or bag for use on the go. I love combining aromatherapy with journaling and all the handcrafted items in my shop are meant to help you create reflective moments for both body and soul.

The name Ruministics is from the Latin ‘Ruminare’; from roots Rumen, Ruminis. It speaks of remembering, recollection, thoughts, reflection and contemplation. I craft my products with the intention and purpose of helping you create reflective moments for your soul as you live life on the go.

How it’s Made

I design the cover first with reclaimed fabric scraps and stitch it with decorative stitching. Next I glue the cover to the book boards and then finally sew in the pages. The process is thoughtful and intutive, letting the fabric and the design make itself, to a point. When I start designing a cover I never know how it will turn out, which also makes the process exciting, surprising and very satisfying.

Using upcycled and reclaimed materials is an important part of my creative process and letting the work be free to express itself is also a large part of my work and aesthetic.
