About this Product

Take your kitchen to the next level with one of our premium walnut butcher block cutting boards. Each crafted from hand-selected American black walnut and accented with our one of a kind brass non-slip feet.

This butcher block is not just a show piece either, it's designed to be a daily workhorse for your kitchen and will live up to generations of daily use. This is a centerpiece for your kitchen countertop or island that'll make meals easier and more enjoyable to prepare, while looking good doing it.

Construction
End grain construction rotates the wood so you are cutting into the grain from the ends of the timber. This process is more difficult and takes more time, but the results are fantastic. Structurally stronger and better looking, the increased price is well worth the investment.

Material
American Black Walnut grows commonly in North America. Considered a premium hardwood because of availability, demand, and wide variety of highly figured grain patterns. Walnut boards are rarely uniform in color and will often have streaks of different colored grains.

This cutting board measures approximately 20x14x2"
Custom sizing is available, send a message for requests.

Each edge of the board is finished with a 1/4" chamfer edge and grooved handles on either side for easy lifting. It also includes 4 of our unique brass and silicone leveling feet to help keep it stable on uneven surfaces and from slipping during use.

Availability

Each is made to order and typically have 1-2 week delivery times.

Additional Notes
Our boards are handmade in our shop using some the best locally purchased domestic and exotic hardwoods. All wood is professionally kiln dried ensuring the ideal moisture level to prevent warping and cracking.

Every board is 100% food safe, never using any dye or stain and only high-quality food safe glues. Our boards are then finished with several coats of food grade mineral oil which penetrates and protects the wood grain as well as brings out the natural luster and beauty of each species of wood used. Finally, a coat of beeswax is applied to further protect the wood, beeswax helps stop the ingress of moisture and food particles and makes the board it easier to clean.

Before shipping one last treatment is applied to ensure it is ready for use the moment you open your box. Our boards are also shipped with care instructions, if properly cared for each of our boards will be an heirloom piece that can last generations. Our blend of mineral oil and beeswax used to treat all of our boards is also available in our store to purchase.

Meet the Maker

The idea of Campfire Woodworks came to me years ago, fueled by my love to build and create, but without a proper place to express my creativity. Then in 2018 my wife and I were lucky enough to purchase our first home, and there I had an empty garage to build my dream shop. In 2019 after months of preparation Campfire Woodworks went live and the first cutting boards started to arrive in people’s homes.

I picked the name Campfire because of its personal meaning to me. Besides making stuff I’m a professional wilderness guide, outdoor educator, and world traveler – so I’ve spent a lot of time sitting around campfires. It’s a simple activity that our ancestors have been doing since the beginning of time, and it was sitting around that campfire that thousands of generations came up with their greatest ideas, innovated the world, and shared stories. So naturally I thought it would be fitting for a woodworking business started by me.

I love creating all kinds of unique things meant be used either as daily workhorses tough enough to outlive generations or as beautiful decor to brighten your space. From cutting boards to kitchen tables I take pride in everything that leaves my shop.

My work usually takes on a rustic, farmhouse styling, likely acquired from all of the time I’ve spent in the mountains of Appalachia, which I hope you can see reflected in my work as well. I also try to include some level of asymmetry in my work whether that be in a live edge piece or my signature pin striping.

I still maintain a full time job outside of woodworking and operate out of a small one car garage shop in my home in Rahway, NJ. A relatively new resident there I take a lot of pride in my community and give back as often as possible. I do have plans of expanding one day, but only if I can do so without compromising the attention I give to my work.

All of the materials are sourced from local lumber mills and suppliers and our hardwood is professionally kiln dried before I begin building with it. Where contact with food is concerned only high-quality food safe products are used in construction and are finished with a natural beeswax and oil product we make and sell in our store.

I absolutely love creating things and I hope you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy something made by Campfire Woodworks one day!
