About this Product

This leather pouch bag is hand cut and laced by me.  It is made with high-quality buttery soft white elk skin leather.  The natural leather pouch is decorated with teal colored glass crow beads, silver accent beads, and a stamped silver tone star concho.

I designed this simple pouch to be useful as well as decorative.  I cut the lacing and fringe using my steel scissors so there are natural variations in the width of it which only add to the handcrafted look of this hand stitched pouch.  It could be used as a possibles pouch, a small Boho purse, a leather pouch necklace, a coin pouch, as a decor item or any number of other uses.

This small pouch measures 9 1/2" long including the 5" long graduated bottom fringe and 4" wide.  The two hand cut single leather lace straps  measure 26 1/2" long and 1/8" wide.  This pouch bag can be adjusted and tied at whatever length you prefer up to 23".  The inside of the pouch measures 3 3/4" by 3 1/2".  The opening at the top of the pouch is 3 1/2" x 2 1/2".  It has a 3 3/4" by 2 1/2" flap closure decorated with a 1 1/4" silver tone star design concho and leather laces with silver metal beads and teal colored glass beads.  I also added a silver tone round feather tube bead on the fringe for added decoration.

Meet the Maker

Hello, my name is Diane and I am the owner and artist of Artisan Rockhound.  I started out as a Rockhound (a person who searches for and collects rocks and minerals as a hobby) and became an Artisan (a skilled craft worker who makes or creates material objects partly or entirely by hand).  I still love rockhounding and do it any chance I get plus I enjoy talking about rocks to whoever wants to listen.

Everything I sell is made in my Arizona, USA workshop with an emphasis on quality over quantity.  The leather pouches I make with high quality Elk and Deer hide that I hand pick from various vendors.  I use only glass beads, natural gemstones, metal, and authentic antler/bones as embellishments.  All my products are proudly made in the USA.  Each one is a unique one of a kind work of art.  My products are already made when they enter the shop so they are ready to ship as soon as you buy them.

I hope you enjoy browsing my shop and thank you for stopping by.

Just me

How it’s Made

I started off by selecting a piece of buttery soft white elk skin leather very few flaws or imperfections.  I use only natural leather so there are bound to be a few flaws which is perfectly fine with me.  I love the feel of soft leather so I meticulously check each piece for softness before I even start a pouch.  I decided to go with a simple mid sized pouch design that I have used before with a few extra touches to make it one of a kind.  This piece of leather was bleached white for use in native American bridal outfits and I bought scraps of it from a woman at a Rendezvous.  I cut the pouch pieces out of a larger length of leather trying to be careful to use as much of the leather as possible since I don't like waste.  I then used my handy dandy leather punch to make holes along the edge of the pieces where I do the lacing.  I cut leather lace from the same piece of leather as the pouch so it is sure to match the color of the leather.  I then used the lace to stitch the leather pieces together to form the pouch using a single whip stitch.  I prefer to do it by hand because I like the look of the lacing showing on the outside of the pouch.  For this pouch I wanted to make it look elegant yet functional so I added fringe that I cut in a graduated length from 2" up to 5 1/4" long.  I added teal colored glass beads to the fringe and the flap on the front of the pouch along with a silver colored star design concho decoration.  I then used the rest of the leather lace to make straps that can be used to wear the pouch either as a neck pouch or a shoulder pouch.

I hope you will enjoy it for years to come.

What a sweet elk skin pouch. Quality work, beautiful soft white leather. Nice extra touches, including the black tourmaline stone. Love the truly handmade touch. Will definitely buy from again. Thank you!
