About this Product

This listing is for a ready-to-ship black LINEN shirt or high necked shift, sized approximately for a lady's M/L (neckband measures approximately 17" and sleeve cuffs are approximately 7.5”). If you would like a different size, please contact me!

The pattern for the shift was slightly modified from historical patterns. The fronts and backs are rectangles, with under-arm gussets. The sleeves are also rectangles. The shift is gathered to a neckband and sleeve cuffs, and features small gathered ruffles and ties at the neck and wrists.

The fabric is a light-weight 100% linen. The neck and wrist ties are ribbon. The neck can be worn open or closed, as you prefer.

The neck opening extends approximately 12” down the center front, making it appropriate for back or side lacing gowns or bodices. The shift measures approximately 29” from shoulder to machine-stitched hem. The sleeve measures approximately 23” from shoulder to wrist. The shirt measures approximately 30” from underarm to underarm when laid flat (60” around). If your neck measurement is larger than 17” the shift can still be worn tied closed, but there will be a gap between the fronts. It can, of course, be worn open.

In order to keep the cost lower, this shift is machine-stitched. The stitching is not really visible from 2-3 feet away. If you would like a partly or completely hand-stitched garment, please contact me; I can make one for you, but please be aware it will cost more due to the increased labor involved. The final cost will depend on the amount of hand stitching involved.

I do custom work! If you are interested in a longer version (knee or ankle length), a man's size, or a different color, size, fabric, with additional lace trim, etc., please Contact me!

All of my garments are made in and ship from the United States from imported and/or domestic materials.

How it’s Made

These 100% linen shirts are inspired by historical examples from the 16th and 17th centuries. They are made of variously sized rectangle pieces of fabric. These are machine sewn, but hand-finished or completely hand-sewn garments are available by special order.
