Meet the Maker

Welcome everyone!

A little about myself. I retired in spring of 2019 from an Information Technology department at a public institution in Omaha. A number of years ago, I had started woodworking as a way to decompress after “a day at the office”. A wood turning lathe was added to the shop in 2017 and I started making bowls, platters, and various Christmas decorations on the lathe for fun and gave some items to family and friends. They gave me much positive feedback about the gifts.

Late in 2017, I started selling on another platform as a way to expand my woodworking hobby and let my woodworking products gain exposure. Since retirement, the woodworking “hobby” has now expanded into several hours of woodworking most every day.

NebraskaWood is a one person woodworking shop and is located in the Plattsmouth Nebraska area (southeast Nebraska). I’m blessed to live on a property that is heavily wooded and also have two dogs, chickens and two cats to help mind the place.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All of NebraksaWood's raw materials are locally sourced when possible. Most of the wood comes from the trees around the shop and from my in-law’s farm that is south of Omaha. The wood used is the result of storms and/or natural die-off. Occasionally pruned branches are used in some of the items. The most commonly used woods are: Elm, Oak, Walnut, Hackberry, Ash, and Hickory. For a few projects, I purchase wood from a sawmill in NW Missouri.

All bowls, round boxes, ornaments and platters are one of a kind, hand turned and finished on the wood lathe.

Thank you for visiting the NebraskaWood's GoImagine shop.

How it’s Made

These crosses are handmade in NebraskaWood's workshop in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

Each cross is about 3" tall, 2" wide and 1/2" thick.

They are lightly hand sanded, leaving a soft-ripply texture, finished with a light coat of tung oil, then buffed and polished with wax given them a satin finish.
