Handmade Christmas Cat Pen

"Mistletoe was born on Christmas day, and when the other kittens saw him, they all ran away..."  Thus begins the story of Mistletoe, a red, green, and white kitten looking for his place in the world.  When they were little, my kids absolutely adored this book, and for many years after, I could recite the entire thing from memory.  It was also the inspiration for this pen.

This handcrafted pen features a sleeping cat in a basket on the top, with the cat's tail swinging down to form the pen clip. The center band features several cat silhouettes in various poses, and the grip section is covered in cat paws.  The colors of the body were inspired by the story and the season, and prominently feature red, green, and white, with a glitter to emulate snow.  The other parts of the pen are a matte antique pewter color, which is a subtle touch to go with the more bold red and green of the body. 

This pen is turned with straight sides. Once shaped, it is sanded and polished to a brilliant shine.  Finally, a thin coat of renaissance wax is applied to help maintain the finish. 

It is about 5 inches long, so it is small enough to be comfortable to small hands or giant bear paws like mine.  Twisting the pen at the center band extends and retracts the point.  The tip can also be unscrewed in order to replace the Parker style pen refill.  Additional refills can be found online, or at any office supply store.

All of my pens come with a medium point Schmidt easyFLOW 9000 ink refill in your choice of blue or black.
