About this Product
This hand forged froe has a cutting edge of approximately 13.5". It starts out as a piece of 2" wide by 3/8" thick mild steel flat bar stock. The forge welded handle eye is tapered to prevent the handle from pulling out the top when in use. A sturdy oak handle is included with this froe. For those who prefer to make their own handle see my other froe listing with no handle included.

A froe was traditionally used for splitting or riving wood roofing shingles, or boards, or splitting stock for table or chair legs. It works by forcing a split along the grain of a piece of wood. Much faster and cleaner than a hand saw!
