Meet the Maker
Hi! My name is Nathan and I live in Colorado with my boyfriend and 2 dogs. I started Grain Knots out of my passion for woodworking projects. Growing up surrounded by wood shops and work benches was common place, I attribute much of my creativity and interest to my family. After college, my first apartment in Indiana included a garage which I quickly turned into my first maker space. I furnished my apartment with self-made tables, shelving, and a coffee bar. Learning new skills with the ever building library of tools, I moved to Colorado to be closer to the outdoors: hiking, camping, biking. I bought a house and again turned my garage into a maker space. With the purchase of a laser cutter and engraver that I first set up in my kitchen, I found a whole new passion in woodworking for customizable and personalized projects.
Making both small and large scale products, Grain Knots specializes in wood products that meet any occasion. Our products are designed with intent and purpose. We use locally sourced wood materials from Colorado and also pride ourselves in using recycled materials in innovative ways to bring elegance and charm to a new product. We love working on custom projects and welcome the creative ideas our customers continuously come back to us for. All of our products are tailor made to meet function for any occasion.

How it’s Made
Our signs are made from wood sourced in Colorado! The backing wood is mostly sourced from reclaimed fence posts, cut to size, stained, and finally sealed with top coat to ensure it will last. The font is laser cut from wood and spray painted before being bonded to the surface of the backing wood.
