About this Product

The interior of this stoneware pie plate features a flock of black birds flying away.  The glaze is a beautiful cinnamon ripple. It is a perfect pie plate for baking a festive pie for the holidays or a delicious pie for every day. Imagine cutting the first piece of a fruit pie and revealing a flying black bird.

The birds were drawn by Amy Roth (my daughter) and turned into food-safe ceramic prints and fired into the glaze.

The pie plate is press molded.

The plate is made of stoneware clay, fired to cone 5, and hand-painted with food-safe, completely non-toxic glazes. It’s perfectly safe to bake in and eat out of but would be an excellent display piece.

It is microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe but stoneware is subject to thermal shock so avoid putting a hot stoneware pie plate into the refrigerator before allowing it to cool or putting a refrigerated plate into the oven before allowing it to warm to room temperature. Do not use it for stovetop cooking.   The ceramic pie plate is approximately 10-inches in diameter. Its depth is 2-inches.

This is an amazing one-of-a-kind ceramic art piece.

Meet the Maker

I am a third generation artist--my grandfather, mother, aunts, brother and my daughter are all artists. I taught art for several years. Now I am a full-time maker. I earned an MFA degree with a major in ceramics. I also have a mother/daughter shop (the original RetroRamics) on Etsy.

How it’s Made

The pie plate is formed by pressing stoneware clay into a mold. It is bisque and then glaze fired. The ceramic prints of birds are original art work make into food safe ceramic prints.
