Once a beautiful china plate...now transformed into a beautiful butterfly.
This one-of-a-kind broken plate butterfly is sure to bring a smile to whomever holds it in their hand. Her body was once a spoon with an intricate flower pattern. Perfect for the body of this little beauty.
Suspended in the air, she seems to flutter as if to say nothing and no one is truly ever broken.

I am married with two grown children and four wonderful grandchildren. My husband and myself live in Delaware, surrounded by chicken and vegetable farms. It’s a quiet, laid back lifestyle which fits our golden years nicely.
Stained glass is a hobby I had gotten into about 30 years ago. Now that I’m retired, children are on their own, and husband is busy with his own hobbies, I can devote more of my time to it.
Looking at sheets of glass and imagining what it can be turned into, then making it happen, is what gives me the most joy. Over the years I have designed and installed many windows for family and friends. Now most of my glasswork is sun catchers and small panels, though I enjoy making the occasional custom stained glass window.

How it’s Made
First I needed to find a plate with a small, pretty print. Carefully, the plate was broken with a hammer, chipped with pliers to the approximate size around where the design was needed for the wings, then sanded down to reach the desired look. A spoon handle was cut to size for her body. Antenna was fashioned from a thick wire.
Now with all the pieces ready, the wings were copper foiled, tinned, then soldered to the spoon handle. Next the antenna were soldered to the body and decorative solder drops were added. A blue satin ribbon is added so your butterfly can fly !

Please note that I believe strongly in recycling packaging when at all possible. Your item may arrive in new, or clean and reused bubble wrap and/or boxes.
The item you purchased will be packaged with care to avoid any breakage. However, things happen. Sometimes the carriers are not as careful as we'd like them to be. In the event your item arrives damaged, please contact me immediately. I will want to see a photo of the damaged item, and I will refund, or ask you to return it depending on what we determine/discuss.
