Morganite is a pink type of beryl (emerald family), named after J.P. Morgan, an avid gem collector. The color ranges from very light pink, looking nearly colorless, to peach and rose pink. It is the second-rarest color in the beryl family, second only to bixbite. It is found in a few places around the world, including Brazil, Madagascar, Mozambique, Afghanistan, Pakistan, among others. It's a fairly hard gem, but care is always needed for any gem, especially in a ring.

Zircon is found everywhere in the crust of the earth, but large crystals are rare, with gem-quality crystals even less rare. The first mention of it is in an ancient Hindu poem of the Kalpa tree, a glowing tree covered with gemstone fruit with leaves of zircon, as well as being mentioned in the Bible several times. Zircon is found in a rainbow of colors, including colorless, which is considered a popular substitute for diamond due to its refraction and dispersion of light. Contrary to popular belief, zircon IS NOT cubic zirconia, which is a man-made diamond simulant. Blue zircon may be the most popular color today, as well as being a birthstone for December. While being relatively hard, it is a brittle stone and has a tendency to fracture along the facets, and should be protected from knocks and pressure, which makes earrings a good place to wear zircon.
Blue zircon is one of the birthstones of December, along with turquoise and tanzanite. It is also assigned to the planet Pluto.
