About this Product

Rachel Robbins original artwork on 8X10 birch wood panel, housed in upcycled ornate resin frame. Frame adds about two inches circumference, and despite its large appearance is quite lightweight and easy-to-hang. "Thundercats" was a bit of a departure for me. A 2021 original painting; acrylic and colored pencil on birch panel, in an ornate vintage resin frame I recovered and restored from a barn sale in central Maine. Perfect decor for aficionados of dark academia and gothic pop surrealism. Painting is on 8X10 birch board, frame adds approximately 2 inches full circumference. A truly unique and charming piece.

Meet the Maker

Would you call yourself spiritual, creative with just a kiss of magic? Is your home a relaxing environment where guests say they feel "so cozy here"? Do you have a unique fashion sense one might describe as bohemian, romantic, punk rock fairycore? Do you fantasize of worlds where waterfalls, enchanted forests, goddesses, fairies, magical gardens, and gentle creatures thrive? That, new friend, is the Right As Rain Eclectic aesthetic, and I'm happy you're here. Through art, writing, and music we are all connected to one another, and there is love in every piece I create.

As for me, I'm Rach Robbins, a mixed media artist who grew up running around in the Maine woods, reading books in trees, sculpting with mud dug from the brook, bathing in the river, throwing hay bales, and organic gardening on our family farm. Dreaming was encouraged, and I never stopped.

Step into the dream. All paintings you see are original, one of a kind works of art; NO PRINTS. Many are framed in Right As Rain Eclectic's trademark over-the-top ornate vintage style. Feed your soul with spiritual surrealist paintings to transform your space into one of revitalization and rejuvenation.

How it’s Made

"Thundercats" is a 2021, so it's been awhile, but let's go back in time...I was having some fun working with birch panels for awhile. You gotta sand them, then give them a generous coat of acrylic gesso. When I'm painting on wood, I like to stare for awhile until I can find some sort of "picture" within the woodgrain, kind of like I'm reading tea leaves, then "trace" the image with charcoal pencil. I activate the pencil with water, let it drip a bit, then see what I'm left with, then paint, color, trace, use whatever medium I have on hand...just keep finding images within images...and somehow may come out with something like a strangely beautiful gothic woman holding a tattered Victorian parasol/umbrella in a night storm underneath a cloud that looks like a Persian cat. I remember using acrylic paint, and colored pencils, and ink, and...not sure what else. The frame was a beaten up 1970s thing I found at a second-hand shop, yard sale, antique barn, or something with some odd picture in it that I tossed (there are a lot of pictures of windmills, faux cross stitch, and such I get rid of when framediving) which I spraypainted, then used rub and buff (I first use the gold paste, then the black). Then I re-glassed and re-backed using canvas bookbinding adhesive. Viola!
